How to Connect Your Hyperliquid Exchange Account

Introduction

This guide provides detailed, step-by-step instructions for connecting a Hyperliquid account to Altrady using API keys.

As a DEX, Hyperliquid operates without centralized custody of user funds, meaning trades are executed directly on-chain. Unlike centralized exchanges (CEXs), Hyperliquid does not support IP whitelisting for API keys, due to its decentralized infrastructure, where connections occur through wallet-based authentication rather than fixed server endpoints.

Once an API key is connected, Hyperliquid can be traded within Altrady in the same way as centralized exchanges. This article also outlines key considerations for managing API wallet validity to ensure uninterrupted trading.

Altrady supports both Spot and Futures for Hyperliquid.

Adding a Hyperliquid API Key

Next, we will show how to cerate an API key on Hyperliquid and connect it to Altrady.

  1. Log into Altrady and navigate to Settings > Exchange Account API keys.

  1. Click + Connect Account.

  1. From the Futures-only section at the bottom select Hyperliquid.

  1. The Altrady Trading account is ready for the API key, secret and public key to be inserted. Spot and Futures account can be toggled at the bottom of the window. Choose one or both.

If a Futures or a Spot account was previously added to Altrady, a new API key must be created on Hyperliquid for a second account (Spot or Futures), and the desired account type enabled using the toggles above. The steps are the same, just toggle the the account that's missing.
  1. If you created a log in, then Log in to Hyperliquid. Otherwise, make sure your wallet is connected

  1. Click on the account dropdown menu in the top-right, then click the copy button to copy the User Public Key for the account.

  1. Paste the copied key within the User Public Key field in Altrady.

  1. In Hyperliquid, hover over the More button to display a dropdown menu, then select API.

  1. On the API page:

A) Enter a name for your this API wallet on the exchange (user-defined).

B) Click Generate. This will generate a unique API key address.

C) Finally. click Authorize API Wallet to proceed to the next step.

  1. In the window that opens thereafter:

A) Copy the API Wallet Address and paste it into the API Key field in Altrady.

B) Click the copy button to copy the Private Key and paste it into the Secret field in Altrady. The Private Key will only be shown once.

C) Set the number of days that the API key will be valid forClick Max to set the max number of days possible. The API key will expire automatically at the end of this period**.

D) Finally, create the API key by clicking Authorize.

The API wallet needs to be authorized in Hyperliquid before the Trading Account can be saved in Altrady. Clicking Save in Altrady prior to authorizing the API wallet will result in an error.

  1. Once the API wallet is authorized, it will be displayed on the API page in Hyperliquid.

  1. Click Save in Altrady.

  1. Altrady will check that it can access the account's balance. Click Add to confirm.

  1. It can take a couple of minutes for the account's balance to be shown in the Trading widget on the Trading Terminal.

On the Trading Terminal, view the Markets widget (or click + next to the tabs at the top).

Select All, Spot or Futures and then Hyperliquid from the list of exchanges on the left side.

Then choose a contract pair for which you have some quote currency (i.e. USDC).

  1. In the Trading widget, the leveraged Available balance for Long and short positions is shown at the top.

If a Spot market is chosen, the actual wallet amount will be shown instead.

Hyperliquid only offers one-way mode for Futures, so there is no option to switch to hedge mode.

To see the current Open amount for a pair, enable Reduce-only in the bottom of the Trading widget; the available balances at the top will show the open amount. To close that full amount, select 100% as the spend/sell amount.

Conversely, if the Available balances at the top of the Trading widget are zero, check whether Reduce-only is enabled. It is only used for closing positions, so disable it if you are opening or increasing a position.

Note that smart orders automatically set TP and SL orders to be Reduce-only. If it only for manual/standalone orders where you are reducing or closing a position that RO should be enabled to avoid overshoot.

The wallet balance for the contract quote currency is shown at the bottom.

If there is a delay in displaying these, click the Resync arrow (top right) to force an update from the exchange.

Important Factors to Note When Trading on Hyperliquid

Validity Period of API Wallets

API wallets (i.e. API key pairs) can only be created with a maximum validity of 180 days. Due to this, the Trading Account in Altrady will need to be updated with a new API key and Secret prior to the validity date lapsing, to ensure that trading goes uninterrupted.

The validity date for an API wallet is shown on the API page in Hyperliquid, under Valid Until, next to the API wallet (see image below).

We suggest that a calendar entry is created as a reminder, to replace the API key a few days before it expires.

To replace the API key in Altrady, edit the Hyperliquid Trading Account from within the Exchange Account API keys page. Do not create a new trading account or delete the old one unless it has no history.
