Understanding the "Chart" Widget of Altrady (Part 2)

The chart widget not only provides real-time data concerning price movements on the chosen coin pairs or cryptocurrency markets, but also allows the creation of Buy/Sell orders, saving of chart layouts for future reference, among other functions. With the help of the chart widget, a better analysis can be made or certain price movements can be examined more closely.

Let’s begin.


How to Create a Buy or Sell Order


It is easy to create buy or sell order via chart widget, but there is a precondition that must be fulfilled:


  • Trading widget is active


There are three methods to create buy or sell order:


A. Using Buy or Sell Button


Step - 1: Click on either the Buy or Sell button, in the chart widget's toolbar.


Step - 2: The corresponding Buy/Sell order handle, will be shown in the chart. **Drag the white part **of the Buy/Sell handle up or down, to set the order at the desired price.


In the Trading widget, the price field will automatically update as the order is dragged up or down.


Step - 3: Fill in the missing fields in the trading widget, as desired.


As the Spend field is filled in, the Buy field will automatically change, to display the corresponding amount of coin being bought/sold. The same applies to the Spend field, if filling in the Buy field first.


Step - 4: Click the Place Order button to confirm and place the order. You will notice that the order handle has changed and that the Place Order button is no longer greyed out, after all fields have been filled in.

B. Using Context Menu


Step - 1: In the chart widget, right-click and then select Create Buy Order or Create Sell Order. The corresponding Buy or Sell handle bar will be shown in the chart.



Step - 2: Drag the Buy/Sell handle bar up or down to set the order at the desired price.



Step - 3: **In the **Trading widget, the price field will automatically populate. Fill in the missing fields as desired, then click Place Order.



C. Using Hotkeys


Step - 1.0: Click on an empty space on the chart, then press the Shift + B keys, if you want to create a Buy order.


Or


Step - 1.1: Click on an empty space on the chart, **then press the **Shift + S keys to create a Sell order. The corresponding Buy or Sell handle will be shown in the chart.


Step - 2: Drag the white part of the Buy/Sell order handle up or down, to set the order at the desired price.



Step - 3: **In the **Trading widget, the price field will automatically update. Fill in the missing fields as desired, then click Place Order.


Editing/Closing/Cancelling a Position from the Chart


A. Smart Position options vs. Manual Position options


Clicking on the "x" **next to an open order on the chart, will bring up the following window, If the order belongs to a **Smart Position:


Edit, close or cancel a Smart Position

If the position is not a Smart Position, then clicking on the "x" next to an open order in the chart, will bring up the following window:

B. Editing a Smart Position


Step-1: **Clicking **Edit, will immediately open the position in the Trading widget and allow you to make changes to its orders:


Add/remove orders, change order type/parameters, add Time-Based Auto Close, enable/disable Take Profit/Stop Loss
Step-2: After making your changes, either click Cancel Edit **to revert them, or **Place Order to confirm the changes. If any changes were made to orders, this will be reflected on the chart.


C. Closing a Position


Step-1: If you click Close Position, you will get the option to either Close Position Limit or Close Position Market:


Step-2.0: **If you choose **Market, then click Close Position **— a Market order will **immediately get placed and filled, to close your position.


Or


Step-2.1: If you choose Limit, you will first be asked to specify a price:



Step-3: After specifying your price and clicking Close Position — your Limit order will be posted at your set price. Once the Limit order is filled, your position will close.


D. Cancelling a Position


Smart Position


Smart **positions, are those that are either labelled **"Smart Position" (lightning bolt icon) or "Signal Bot" (signal icon):


"Smart" position

"Signal Bot" position


Note: a "Signal Bot" position is a type of Smart Position.


Step-1: **After clicking **Cancel Position, you will notice that all orders linked to the position are immediately cancelled and have disappeared from your chart.


Manual Position


Manual positions, are positions that are labelled as either "Spot Position" (notepad icon) **or **"Futures Position" (money bag icon):


"Spot" position

"Futures" position


Step-1: Click on the **"x" **next to one of its open orders on the chart.


Step-2: **Confirm that you want to cancel the order on the next window, and **ensure that this is done for all the open orders, individually:


Step-3: **Find the manual position in **My Positions > Open, click on the three dots next to the position, then click Mark as Closed. The same methods apply to both "Spot" and "Futures" positions.

Alternatively, a manual position can also be marked as closed, when it is opened in the Position Info widget:

Note: if you do not cancel all of the manual position's orders before marking it as closed, those orders will remain open until they are filled or cancelled. Ensure all orders are cancelled one-by-one, before the position is marked as closed.


How to Change Chart Settings


A. General Settings


Step -1: To change the general settings in the chart widget, click on Settings in the chart widget’s toolbar.



Step - 2: Once the Settings option is clicked, **Chart Settings **will be displayed with two tabs:


  • General Settings
  • Colors



Step -2: Click on the General Settings tab.



In the general settings tab, the following options are available to be configured:


A. Open orders

  1. Show open orders in the chart
  2. Show labels on open orders
  3. Show side on open orders
  4. Enable editing orders from the chart
  5. Enable canceling orders from the chart
  6. Enable line across the chart


B. Positions

  1. Show Unrealized Average Entry price
  2. Enable closing positions from the chart



C. Closed Orders

  1. Show closed orders
  2. Number of last closed orders
  3. Show prices of closed orders
  4. Show quantity on closed orders
  5. Draw closed orders on top of the chart


D. Alerts

  1. Show alerts
  2. Show alert note
  3. Enable editing alerts from the chart
  4. Enable canceling alerts from the chart
  5. Enable line across the chart


D. Bases

  1. Show bases
  2. Show selected base background
  3. Show respected bases
  4. Show not respected bases
  5. Show not cracked bases


E. Replay

  1. Show start/end times
  2. Show current time
  3. Show labels on time-lines


F. Misc

  1. Show break-even point
  2. Show order book ask/bid lines
  3. Remember visible range on the chart



Step -3: To change the settings, click the Yes **or **No button next to the option.



**Step -4: **After changing the desired settings, click **Save Settings, **to save the changes.



The chart widget will then be updated, as shown below:



The Reset settings button can be clicked to revert back to the default settings.



B. Color settings


Step -1: To change the color settings in the chart widget, click on the Settings option in the chart widget’s toolbar.



Step - 2: **Once the **Settings option is clicked, Chart Settings will be displayed with two tabs:


  • General Settings
  • Colors



Step -3: Click on the Colors tab.



Colors can be set to the following options:


A. Chart

  1. Grid lines
  2. Gradient
  3. Background
  4. Foreground
  5. Candles
  6. Borders
  7. Wicks



B. Orders & Alerts

  1. Alert
  2. Open buy order
  3. Open sell order
  4. Amount & price color
  5. Closed order icon
  6. Closed buy order
  7. Closed sell order



C. Price

  1. Current price
  2. Ask price
  3. Big price
  4. Break-even


D. Bases

  1. Not cracked
  2. Cracked
  3. Respected



Step -4: To change the color of items on the chart, click on the colored box next to the options.


Step -5: After selecting the desired colors, click on **Save Settings, **to save the changes.



The chart will be updated automatically, as shown below:



The Reset Colors button can be clicked, to revert all color settings back to their defaults.



How to Take a Snapshot


Step - 1: Click on the camera button to copy the link with the chart snapshot.


Or press Alt + S keys for the chart snapshot.


Step - 2: Copy the link to access or share the chart widget snapshot.


Step - 3: ** The following window will be opened where you can immediately share the same link to your socials. The link will however **already be copied, as shown by the message that appears:

Step - 4: Enter the copied URL in your browser to view your snapshot.


How to Save Drawings and Default Indicators


A. Save Chart Layout


Step -1: To save the cryptocurrency pairs/symbols and intervals that are in the chart, click the Save button in the chart widget’s toolbar or press the CTRL+S keys.


Step - 2: **Once you click on the **Save button, a Save New Chart Layout window will be displayed, as shown below:



Step - 3: Enter your desired layout name and click Save, to save the chart layout.




Rename Chart Layout


Step -1: **To rename a chart layout, **click on the downward arrow next to the chart layout name in the chart widget’s toolbar, and select the Rename option from the dropdown.




Step -2: Enter the desired layout name and click save.




C. Copy Chart Layout


Step -1: **To copy the chart layout, click on the **downward arrow next to the chart layout name in the chart widget’s toolbar, and select the Make a Copy option.



**Step -2: **Once you click on the make a copy option, ‘Copy chart layout’ dialog would be displayed, as shown below:


Step -3: Enter the desired layout name and click save.



D. Load a Chart Layout


Step -1: **To load a previously saved chart layout, click on the **Downward arrow button next to the chart layout name in the chart widget’s toolbar and select the **Load chart layout **option.



**Step -2: **Once you click on the load chart layout option, a modal window will appear on the screen with all the chart layouts that have been created previously.


Step -3: Click on the layout name you want to load.


**Step - 4: **The Chart widget will load the corresponding layout, as shown below:



E. Delete a Chart Layout


Step -1: **To delete a chart layout, click on the **downward arrow next to the chart layout name, and select the Load Chart layout option.



Step -2: Once you click on the load chart layout option, a modal window will appear on the screen with all the chart layouts that have been created previously.


Step -3: **Click on the ‘X’ icon next to the chart layout name, then click **Yes on the following window to delete the layout. The corresponding layout would be deleted automatically, as shown below:



How to Set the Chart’s Timeframe


**Step -1: **To change the chart’s timeframe, select the desired timeframe at the bottom left part of the chart widget.


**Step -2: **Once you click on the desired timeframe, the chart widget will be updated automatically, as shown below:



Step -3: to navigate to a specific date, click the calendar button at the bottom-left part of the chart widget and select the desired date.



**Step - 4: **Once you enter the date, the chart widget will be updated automatically, as shown below:



How to Change the Chart’s Timezone


Step -1: **To change the chart’s timezone, click on the **Current timezone shown in the bottom part of the chart widget and select the desired timezone from the list.




**Step - 2: **Once the desired timezone is selected, the chart’s timezone will automatically change, as shown below:
