Background: Altrady vs Exchange Positions

On futures exchanges, only one open position per direction exists per pair. The size of this position updates as you buy or sell.

What Altrady Does Differently

Altrady allows you to track multiple positions on the same pair and direction, to support different trading strategies such as:

  • Smart positions
  • Signal bot positions
  • Regular/manual positions
  • Swing trades
  • Scalps

Each Altrady position includes its own:

  • PnL
  • Break-even price (BEP) and Average entry price (AEP)
  • Invested amount and open size

All Altrady positions share:

  • Liquidation price
  • Margin type and leverage multiplier, and margin amount

This design helps traders manage strategies independently while preserving detailed analytics.

What matching positions look like on Altrady vs the exchange

Message: "Quantity doesn't match the exchange"

You might see this message in the Position Info widget for a position on a futures market:

“Quantity for this position (0.001) doesn't match the exchange (0.002). If you delete the position, a correct one will be created automatically.”

This message appears when the total open amount for all positions on this pair (in the same direction) in Altrady do not match the total position size reported by the exchange.

If your multiple Altrady positions add up correctly to the total on the exchange, this message will not appear.

Possible Causes

Orders Placed Outside Altrady

Placing orders on the exchange (or via another platform) can result in trades that:

  • Are visible in Altrady (as trade arrows on the chart and as closed orders in My Orders)
  • But are not linked to any existing smart or bot position

What to do:

If trades are available (as shown by trade arrows on the chart, and push notifications):

Older Trades Missing

If the position was opened before connecting your exchange to Altrady, the full trade history may not be available.

Why this happens:

  • Exchanges often only provide recent trades and orders (last 24h) when syncing via API

Altrady receives:

  • Open orders
  • Open position summary
  • Recent trades
  • Older trades are missing unless manually imported

What to do:

If this is not possible:

  • Manage the position manually until it closes on the exchange (open amount = zero)
  • Then close it and start fresh with new positions

It is always possible to view the open amount on the exchange:

  • For one-way mode, enable Reduce-only in the Trading widget. At the top of the Trading widget, the open amount is the available amount for the exit side.
  • For hedge mode, in the Trading widget select the direction and the Close option. The open amount is shown as the available amount at the top of the trading widget.

Note: Imported trades cannot be used to create a smart position

Standalone or Incorrect Order Usage; also Liquidation

You may have:

  • Placed a separate order instead of Increasing an existing smart position
  • Placed a regular or standalone TP/SL
  • Placed orders directly on the exchange
  • Had a position liquidated by the exchange (the liquidation order and trade will not be linked to an Altrady smart position)

This leads to:

  • Orders not being linked to a smart or bot position
  • Position mismatch warning

What to do:

  • Cancel/delete the current Altrady position
  • Create a new position starting before the first trade of the position

Execution Errors

Rarely, errors can occur in execution—e.g. both Take Profit and Stop Loss filling at the same instant. This may cause the position to close incorrectly.

What to do:

What Should I Do? Quick Reference

Situation

Cause

What You Should Do

Multiple Altrady positions: Sum of Open amounts matches the exchange

Nothing—this is expected

One or more Altrady positions: Sum does not match exchange

Orders placed outside Altrady

Delete/cancel and recreate position

Trade history missing (before API added)

Try importing, else manage manually until closure

Standalone or exchange orders used

Delete/cancel and recreate position

Position error or liquidation occurred, position closed without all trades included

Delete/cancel and recreate with correct start time

Extra Notes

How Altrady Builds Position Data

  • Smart positions only include trades linked to the smart order
  • Signal bot positions include only bot-initiated trades
  • Date-based positions include all trades between the start and end time

About Exchange Syncing

When you connect an API key:

  • Altrady receives: open orders, position summary, and recent trades
  • Older trades are not included unless imported
  • Use the resync arrow at the top-right of the chart to refresh recent data
  • Closed orders can be viewed in My Orders > Closed
  • Filled orders (trades) can be seen on the chart marked by arrows. Size and price of trades can be seen on the chart as well by enabling the relevant Chart Settings.
